The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom says the institution of impeachment proceedings against him by eight members of the state assembly would have been impossible were Nigeria not a shithole country.  Reacting to the move, Ortom said he has now come to understand why US President Donald Trump said there are “shithole countries” in Africa. Chelsea want a world-record fee in excess of £200million if they are to sell Eden Hazard this summer. Real Madrid remain the favoured destination for Hazard but Chelsea will not sell their star man cheaply and know the price tag will act as a deterrent at this stage of the window. Earlier today, it was reported that a car was swept away by the flood and three of its four occupants were rescued alive (read here). A video showing the road divided into two as a result of the flood has now been shared online. In the clip, cars are seen trying to avoid the gaping opening along the centre of the streets. One car had a lucky escape as some parts of the road broke off just after it passed.  The incident happened yesterday at Mgbemena Street in Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State. The area where this happened is a residential area with houses lining the streets and with the way the opening in the middle of the street keeps widening, it is clear the occupants of the houses are at risk.  We don't have the video here but it's online.

   The former Security Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government, Chief Perekeme Richard Kpodo, has been accused of rape and unlawful detention of one Teke Blessing in his hotel in Etegwe, Yenagoa, Bayelsa.    The incident allegedly occurred on the 20th of June, 2018 and he was arraigned today at the Yenagoa magistrate.    He however pleaded not guilty and was ordered to be remanded in Okaka prison till the 10th of August, 2018, for hearing on bail application.

Fulham have signed Germany international midfielder Andre Schurrle on loan from Borussia Dortmund, the club announced on Wednesday. The 27-year-old will join the Craven Cottage club for two seasons. The former Chelsea man spent the past two campaigns at Dortmund after spending a year at Wolfsburg. Barcelona reached a deal to sign Bordeaux's Malcolm for £36.5m, few hours after Roma announced they had agreed a deal for the same player. Malcolm had a very successful year last season in Ligue 1 after his move from Corinthians.
