Feola Olola |
Afro pop singer and
songwriter Oluwanifemi Olufeolami Famuyibo popularly known as Feola Olola or
Olola was born on 16 October 1996 in Felele, Ibadan the capital of Oyo State but hails from Ado-Ekiti.
He is the middle child of Mr Olufemi Famuyibo, a Businessman and Contractor and
Mrs Temitope Apejua Famuyibo, a trader. He was named “Olufela” by his father
after the late Afro beats founder Fela Anikulapo Kuti, his father being a fan
of the late Legend but the name was later changed to “Olufeolami” by his mother
because she was of the opinion that the late artist lived a reckless life.
He grew up listening
to Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Fela Anikulapo
Kuti, Tupac Shakur and Sade Adu, He also
listed Damian Marley, 2baba, D’banj, Wande Coal, Wizkid, Kendrick Lamar and Kizz
Daniel as his musical influences. He recorded his first song on a laptop in his
bedroom at the age of 15 with T.I.M.E, a group made up of him and 3 other
school friends, that was the only song the group recorded prior to disbanding. He initially used Fela Olola as his stage name to pay homage to Fela Anikulapo, but later changed it to Feola in order to retain his identity as an artist, the name Olola means the one who owns wealth.
He recorded his first
official single ’Bless Me’ at age 18 and released it online on the 16th
of October 2015 as a way of celebrating his 19th birthday, he recorded
‘Open Doors’ but released it January 2016, under Crunkyard, a management team he
met and got signed to while studying Computer Science at the Federal University
of Tech, Akure, he later won the ‘Next Rated Award’ in the FUTASU Awards. He followed it up by
releasing ‘Long Time’ ft Superwozzy and Olazz which got him much backlash,
because he released it exclusively on song selling platforms, a move Nigerians
are not used to, He also recorded a cover of Yung6ix and Baddest Dj Timmy –
Respek On My Name, which got him the attention and encouragement of the Dj.
In the year 2017 he
dropped out from school to focus on his music after getting a record deal from Grind
Records, a label co-owned by his Cousin, under the label he released Bless Me
Video, but didn’t release another work for the remainder of the year, due to
management issues in the record label, however he released ‘Adore You’ Audio
and Visual February 2018, which got him a lot of airplay, he lost his father on
the 23rd of April, 2018.
Due to a breakdown in
the relationship between him and his cousin, his contract was terminated and he
was released from the label. He later released a cover of ‘Wizkids Soco’ featuring
Skidough Simba and Olta Skillz, and followed it up with a cover of 'Calvin
Harris featuring PartyNextDoor – Nuh Ready'.
