Ronaldo gets one match ban, free to play Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to face his old club Manchester United in the Champions League next month after UEFA handed the Juventus forward a one-game ban on Thursday. The Portuguese superstar was sent off in the first half of Juve’s 2-0 win away to Valencia last week after a clash with Jeison Murillo. He risked a potentially lengthy suspension, but instead the 33-year-old will only sit out his team’s game at home to Swiss champions Young Boys next week. Juve then plays Jose Mourinho’s United at Old Trafford on Tuesday, October 23, before hosting the English club in Turin on November 7 in Group H. Ronaldo, a five-time Champions League winner, first won the competition with United in 2008 before leaving for Real Madrid a year later. He moved to Juventus in July after nine years in the Spanish capital and has so far scored three goals in Serie A for his new club.

Champions league to use VAR next season

Source:BBCSports   Video assistant referees will be used in the Champions League from the 2019-20 season, Uefa has announced. VAR will also be used in the 2019 Super Cup and at Euro 2020, as well as in the Europa League from 2020-21 and the 2021 Nations League finals. The system - used at the 2018 World Cup in Russia - allows referees to review footage of key decisions. President Aleksander Ceferin said Uefa was "confident" it would have time "to put in place a robust system". He added it would also provide sufficient time to train match officials to ensure an "efficient and successful implementation of VAR" in "the world's flagship club competition". VAR was under intense scrutiny at the World Cup, where its use was allowed to clear up incidents around the awarding of goals, penalties, red cards and in cases of mistaken identity. Australia's A-League was the first top-flight league to use the system in 2017, with Major

Presidency reacts to bribery allegations against Abba Kyari

The Presidency has reacted to the recent corruption allegations leveled against the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari. Over the weekend, a national newspaper had claimed that Kyari demanded bribe as a condition for the award of a contract. Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, in a statement released over the weekend, said the publication was improbable and outlandish as Kyari had no “private meetings with the person making those allegations.” ”What is even more surprising is the decision by the newspaper to run the cooked up lies despite obvious loopholes in the story, such as the Bureau of Public Procurement’s denial that a major source for the story was a member of their staff. With a slew of crucial elections ahead, some politicians and their media agents appear to be working together to build pressure on the Buhari administration by wielding non-existent scandals against it. We equally note that the supply of 15 Hilux ve
