Eunice Atuejide is a Nigerian presidential aspirant;
in fact she’s the first female presidential aspirant that I, Mr Yeye, have
heard of during the course of the campaign for the 2019 general elections.
Nigeria has never had a woman as her leader either as Head of state during the
military regime or as President in her not so recent democratic state. I find
that surprising, not because Nigeria has more female, its actually quite the
opposite, according to most sources on the internet, Nigeria has a 51% Male
ratio to a 49% Female ratio. I’m surprised because women actively take part in
almost all of the events that to lead to Nigeria’s general elections. I also
find it surprising that women across the nation have not united to present one
or two candidates they think is capable of leading this Country, instead what
we have are young and old women telling their children not to marry or have a
relationship with a person from certain tribes. Can you imagine in a country
that has over 250 tribes, you are being limited to engage with 1 or 2 tribes,
crazy, right? I’m starting to think the women are the problem not the men,
because there’s a saying that goes like this, ‘Educate A Man If You Want To
Liberate A Family but If you want to liberate a generation educate A woman’.
I feel education is not Nigeria’s problem;
at least the rate of literate people in the southern part of Nigeria has
increased. Our state of education might be deteriorating but that is a story
for another day, so what could be the problem? I really don’t know so I guess I
have to do more research on the state of mind of Nigerian women. Now back to
the issue at hand, Eunice Atuejide today tweeted about her experience with
other Presidential Aspirants, she wrote and I quote
“Again, I’m not a feminist! I
actually hate it when people call me feminist because the word means too many
things, many of which I don’t like! Everyone should have a fair chance. Be
yourself and be treated right being yourself, so guys, lets caption this
picture(she inserts picture).”
To me we need contributions & views from
all sides (masculine & feminine) in designing the future Nigeria. It’s
neither a man’s world, nor a woman’s world. It is our world. We all matter! We
all have a lot to offer, and equal weight must be given to our views.

She then inserts a video of a group of male
political aspirants holding hands and chorusing “We have all agreed to work
together”. She continues;
‘Does the caption “Agreement of ALL 2019
Progressive/Young/Independent Presidential Aspirants to work together” work for
you? It doesn’t for me simply because the entire female species was excluded!
So guys, help me find the perfect caption…. #ANigeria4All’
Unfortunately the message she was trying to
pass across was lost before it landed. People, most especially women chose to
focus on her first line “Again I’m not a feminist”. The replies her tweet got
were not what she expected. You guys will have to head over to her twitter page
@eunice_atuejide to read the replies, as they are way too much. Truthfully the
term “feminism” has been bastardized as of recent; some women use this movement
to falsely accuse men and also attack men, but the true meaning of feminism
should never be lost. I’m inconclusive on how I feel about her write up but I
want to get your opinion on what you feel about her statement, so kindly drop a
comment by writing in the comment box, love you all.
